From FIVB China to Florida and Onto Cali; Brooke Sweat Writes In

Brooke Sweat has been busy digging balls, signing autographs and reppin' ROX gear. We love having her near in Florida but USAV says it's time to move out west. We are happy and sad; but most of all, we want to congratulate her on all of her successes! Looking forward to seeing another ROX Star on the California beaches.

Hey girls!

I just got back from an FIVB Exhibition event in China. USAV partnered me up with Kaitlin Sather to represent USA in this event. There were 12 teams from several different countries: China, Malaysia, Germany, Kazakhstan, Holland and Poland. We started with pool play - we defeated China and Germany. In the quarters we beat Malaysia then topped Kazakhstan in the semis before falling to the Germans in the finals - the same team we beat earlier in pool play :( Oh well. It was a great tournament for us...especially considering it was our first time ever playing together! The Chinese fans absolutely loved us! It was a fun atmosphere! We must have signed 1,000 autographs and took a million pictures - they were intense! I will send some pictures when I get them (couldn't wear tattoos for some reason, but I wore my Rox bottoms).

I am moving to Cali the beginning of January. Really looking forward to all the coaching and non stop action out there! USAV has expressed interest in getting me to more international events over the next few years so they recommended I make the move out. I'm super excited about what lies ahead!

Brooke Sweat has something to talk about!

Brooke Sweat & Kristen Batt are traveling from coast to coast to be a part of the sport they love most and making their mark everywhere they go! Brooke wrote Rox Volleyball to give us an update on their latest standings.

"Hey Rox! First off, thank you for having us do the photo shoot - it was tons of fun!!

Just finished up our last "big" tournament of the season. The top 32 teams from around the country converged onto the sands of Hermosa Beach this weekend for the last stop of the 2011 Jose Cuervo Pro Beach Volelyball series.

• 7th place finish
• 32 womens teams
• Top teams: Kessy/Ross, Fendrick/Hanson, Rutledge/Branagh, Kropp/Pavlik, Davis/Jordan and Akers/Lewis
• Thousands of spectators
• Played a fun, long, exciting match on stadium courts against Rutledge/Branagh in front of a great crowd (lost in 3).
• Televised on Versus

Some exciting news - We will be playing in the AVP Championship Cup in Huntington Beach in October!! Only the top 2 domestic teams and the top 2 international teams were invited! We are the #2 domestic team for the 2011 season!! #1 is Kropp/Pavlik. We are so excited!! It will be a fun event!! For more information check out www.avp.com.

Rox Sponsored Athletes Update

The Rox team knows everyone is busy gearing up for High School season and that some of you might not have time to keep up with all the great Rox sponsored athletes. So, we decided to put the most recent results for all of our ROXStars in one place. We are so proud of all our athletes!

Brooke Sweat & Kristen Batt

This Rox Star duo has been on fire recently! These girls won the championship in the women’s open division at Hermosa Beach. The final scores for the two matches were 21-18 and 21-16. Congratulations ladies! Here are some more stats on this deadly duo!

You can find Brooke & Kristen this weekend in Miami Beach playing in the NVL. Then the following weekend Brooke & Kristen are in sunny Miami again for the Jose Cuervo/USAV Tournament. After that they are off to Hermosa, CA for the Jose
Cuervo/USAV.

Destinee Hooker

Destinee Hooker, US Women’s National Team player, recently led the USA Women’s Team to the gold in the 2011 FIVB World Grand Prix.  In the meantime, Destinee was awarded Most Valuable Player (MVP) honors for the Grand Prix.  Destinee and the US Women’s National Team will be in action again at the NORCECA tournament from September 12 – 17th in Puerto Rico. Show us what force the rest of the world has to deal with at the 2012 Olympics ladies!!!  Good luck Destinee!

JD Christie

JD recently took third place at the Dig the Beach National Championship while sporting some awesome Rox gear! Way to go JD, and keep up the good work. Here are some more stats on this awesome Rox athlete:

A Letter from Brooke Sweat

Brooke Sweat wrote in to us today to give us some updates on her tournament schedule this weekend. Read her personal insights on NORCECA Mexico and NVL Baltimore plus her upcoming events.

I think I have sent updates from all tournaments up through May..so here’s the most recent updates:

May 11-16 NORCECA Mexico:

This was such a fun tournament - it was neat to see how we fared against competition from other countries. There were 13 total womens teams and we won  We went undefeated the entire tournament. We defeated Nicaragua and Trinidad in pool play. We then went on and defeated Puerto Rico in quarterfinals. After we had a tight match with Mexico in the semi finals. They definitely had a home court advantage but we pulled out a 15-13 win. Then finally we defeated Cuba in the finals!

There was a great crowd for the entire tournament with record breaking crowd numbers for NORECA event - over 4,000 people filled the stadiums.

May 18-21 NVL Baltimore:

This was a tough tournament. We lost 2 very close matches in 3 to 2 very good teams! We ended up placing 9th in the overall tournament. The matches were streamed live on the internet - available to anyone to watch. We played at the Inner Harbor, which was very busy with a lot of foot traffic. Some of top players in the country participated - Lisa Rutledge, Annette Davis, Jenny Kropp, Whitney Pavlik….

UPCOMING TOURNAMENTS:

May 28 - EVP Naples - I will be playing with Tara Kuk since Kristen will be out of town. This is an invite only event so I’m expecting some top teams from around the country.

June 4 - Dig the Beach Fort Myers - Playing with Kristen. I don’t think there are any other beach events this weekend so top teams from Florida will be participating.

June 11 - Corona Siesta - Playing with Kristen. First Corona of the season. Huuuuuge event!! Everyone from Cali and all over the United States will be coming for this event! So excited for it!!
