ROX Volleyball Drill of the Week: April 19

Thanks to TRIBE Volleyball Club for submitting the ROX Drill of the Week. The Exchange drill focuses on cooperative team play and is a great drill to use as a warm-up. Tribe Volleyball Club is a ROX Sponsored Volleyball club out of Sunrise, FL. Just recently, the club traveled to the Big South National Qualifier in Atlanta, GA where TEAM ROX 18's, 14's and 12's took home the gold medal in their respective divisions. Way to go girls and thanks for sharing some of your practice secrets!

Dig the Beach: Ft. Laudy recap

Beach volleyball players are troopers! Every good player practices playing in sub-par weather conditions but we were sure the weather on Saturday was going to be an all-time record for wind ball. With players who flew in from around the country, the Men’s Open division was the only brave souls to weather this storm and play. USAV/Dig the Beach rescheduled for all division to play on Sunday.

Sunday morning proved to be a much better beach volleyball day and the ROX crew was ecstatic to see the amount of ROX swimsuits on the courts. There was a ton of buzz generating from ROX Professional, Kristen Batt, who sported one of the new 2012 performance suits coming soon. ROX Beach Designer, Melissa Moore who also was competing, rocked the court in another ROX suit, which will be available for sale at the next Dig The Beach event in ClearwaterTroy, our VP, was getting several random pulls to his ROX Men’s boardshorts from players testing the fabric. That’s right, our Men’s beach line is underway and coming to a court near you!

Part of the excitement was the level of involvement from the other sponsors as well. The new partnership between USAV and Dig The Beach not only brought in a lot of volleyball support, but also reached out to a handful of solid companies with the intention of promoting and growing this amazing sport. These sponsors include: USA Volleyball, Rider Sandals, Apex Brasil, Samba Coconut Water, Nu Naat, RX Massage Therapy, Joape, Itaipava, Vipal, Giraffas, Shot Pak, Spalding and Walgreens. With everyone’s passion for creativity this tour stop was the biggest and brightest to hit Ft. Lauderdale since the AVP touched down here 3 years ago.

Congrats to all the players who came out and played this past weekend. We are excited for Clearwater Classic on May 12-13 and to host the first official Player’s Party with a full-blown fashion show. Sign up on our Mailing list here to get all updates and promotions regarding Dig the Beach tour stops and our new beach line.

Looking forward to seeing you all on the beach!

We had a Fiesta on Siesta Key

Beach season is officially underway and our Rox Volleyball crew didn’t waste any time on getting out there and becoming part of the action.

Friday the crew worked hard on packing up the new Rox beachwear along with the awesome new casual wear and cover-ups and headed southwest to Siesta Key, FL! Due to the large participation in the 4th annual Fiesta on Siesta Key, the tourney was split into 2 days full of matches. Unlike the Ft. Laudy crew’s weather at Dig the Beach the sun was shining and tan lines were burning! We popped our tents up next to Panama Jack’s and Florida State University’s (FSU) tent and set up camp!

Freebies here…freebies there…freebies everywhere! Rox Mini Balls, Non-Slip Flex Headbands, and Backpacks were being sported all around Siesta Key. Players, Coaches, Mom, Dads and even infant children couldn’t keep their hands off the Rox Tattoos. “Monica” our headless mannequin was sporting the new sublimated Amp II Reversible top while her friends were showing off the new RoxStar tops in neon green and sublimated blues. The Rox Crew played it cool under the shade in the new Rox Retro and Target tees and tanks.

The day was full of festivities, but unfortunately it had to come to an end.  RoxStar Chantelle Jordan and her partner Ashley ‘Slim’ Naughton repped Webber International University and took first in the Senior Division…and might I say they looked great in their Hawaii Blue RoxStar tops while doing it! FSU’s Aurora Newgard and Brittany Tiegs took 1st in the Fiesta Division, which contributed to FSU taking Gold in the Team Cup with 162 points. Rox would like to give a BIG CONGRATULATIONS to Chantelle, Ashley, FSU and all the other participants in Fiesta on Siesta Key. We hope to see you next year!!

Staying Positive on the Volleyball Court

You're eight points down in serve receive and you can’t pass a ball to save your life.  As the ref blows his whistle the sole of your feet are suddenly glued to the floor. There goes another shank and a nine point lead for the opposing team. Or maybe you’re sitting on the bench feeling as if you’re not getting enough playing time. This is where most players would give up and lose all confidence; it happens to the worst and the best players. However, you can change this mental status at anytime. All it takes is five easy steps to keep you and your team positive.

1.      Breath: Take a second to yourself, relax and take a deep breath in and slowly let it out. The movement of oxygen for your next move.
2.      Talk: Speak words of encouragement in a calm voice, such as “it's okay, we can do this and easy pass”. This gives yourself as well as your teammates mental stability that will help regain confidence.
3.      Cheering: Even if you are off the court you contribute just as much as anyone on the court with your voice. Prior to each game, choose someone to cheer for that whole match. Make sure everyone has someone to cheer for and someone cheering for them. This will add as a back up plan if ever a player is losing that kick to keep pushing. If your on the bench and being loud and supportive, not only will it help your teammates but it will show your coach your head's still in the game.
4.      Positive Thinking: Take time to think of how you want to succeed. Reassure yourself in what you are capable of. Even though you may not be seeing the court as much, it doesn’t mean you are not a strong player. Players are often put on the court to match the opposing team’s strengths. Your time will come. Push yourself in practice and when your name is called to sub in, surprise everyone and rock the gym!
5.      High Five: Never underestimate the influence of a great high five! After every play, good or bad, come together and make sure you touch EVERYONE'S hand. This gives you a second to connect with your team and regroup as a family on the court.

Tell us here at ROX Volleyball your steps to keeping a positive attitude on the court. You never know how you will make a difference! if you are playing at Big South or JVA ROX World Challenge this weekend, we want to see you rockin' it out there!
